From Fujimoto Ayumi interview on bookbinding for German Exhibition 2018
The point was to make it easier for German people to understand Japanese writing. I used common colors found in HARIBO which really identify and define gummy in Germany. But I wanted to make them the “character “ in my book.
Holding the book in my hand today was an incredible experience and it felt different, even heavy. I imagined I would use a very plain book-cover but instead it has a more unique surface, which I really like.
My message to people who will visit the exhibition in Germany is as follows:
This story was made by me, and I'm Japanese. So I hope you can compare it to the German way. For example, I made Sushi with gummy as a joke. If German people were doing this, what kind of image would you consider to be funny.
